STARKVILLE – Brittany Thackery, a four-time All-American outfielder at the University of Arizona and rising star in football program administration, was announced Monday as Mississippi State football's director of player personnel.
"I am excited to welcome Brittany and her husband Adam to Mississippi State," head coach Mike Leach said. "Brittany is a tireless worker with contagious energy. As a former student-athlete and former four-time softball All-American, she can relate to our current student-athletes and recruits and assist them in their daily personal development. She has an academic and coaching background, which aligns perfectly with our football program."
Thackery comes to Starkville after two years at Washington State as a member of Leach's staff, beginning as the Cougars' manager of player personnel and in November 2019 was elevated to director of player personnel.
"I want to thank Coach Leach and Dave Emerick for the opportunity and privilege to be a part of Mississippi State football," Thackery said. "I can't wait to get to work immediately, representing such a great institution and getting to know our student-athletes. I am ready to call Starkville home."
Thackery assisted with the organization and execution of Washington State's recruiting efforts. In addition, she was responsible for assisting freshmen with their transition to Pullman, overseeing the Cougars' "Big Brother" program, and aiding in the operations of the program.
Prior to joining the Cougars' football staff, Thackery worked at Washington State the previous two years. She served as a student-athlete development intern from 2016-17 and as an academic and transitions advisor from 2017-18. Thackery worked with student-athletes in academic skill development, helped coordinate the WSU Summer Bridge Program for all incoming student-athletes and was a career advisor who helped implement strategic planning for student-athletes' career and personal development.
Prior to Washington State, Thackery was an assistant softball coach for Bowling Green and Miami University, both located in Ohio.
Thackery, a native of Laguna Niguel, California, was a four-time All-American outfielder for the Arizona softball team (2008-11), earning first-team honors her final three seasons. Thackery, the former Brittany Lastrapes, set a Women's College World Series record with 13 hits in the 2010 Women's College World Series. As a senior, she was one of 10 finalists for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award, recognizing an athlete in each sports for excellence and accomplishments in community, classroom, character and competition.
Thackery earned her bachelor's degree in political science from Arizona in 2011 and master's degree in sport administration from Bowling Green in 2017. She is married to Adam Thackery, who has worked at Washington State since 2016 and most recently as associate director of strength and conditioning for WSU athletics since the spring of 2018.
