DALLAS, Texas – Mississippi State men's golf finished in a three-way tie for 11th place during Tuesday's final round of the 2019 Trinity Forest Invitational at the Trinity Forest Golf Club in Dallas, Texas.
Junior Cameron Clarke led the squad with a total score of one-under, 70. He secured a bogey-free back nine in rounds two and three and carded one of three eagles from the Bulldogs in Dallas. He finished the event tied for 24th, his fourth top 25 finish in his Bulldog career.
"I didn't play bad at all the first day, the conditions were just really tough," Clarke said. "I knew that I was hitting the ball good enough to post two solid rounds together."
Sophomore Ford Clegg shot another one of State's eagles, also on the first hole. He finished the second and third round with a one-under, 70. He fired a bogey free front nine and ended the tournament one-over.
Senior Garrett Johnson moved three spots up on the leaderboard after he recorded an even-par, 71 for round three. He carded a clean back nine during the final round. Johnson's iron play was spectacular as he was only two shots off from leading the 90-player field on par threes.
Monday's round two was freshman Hunter Logan's best round as he fired a bogey-free front nine to finish the day at even-par, 71.
The Bulldogs tied for first among the 17-team field with three eagles recorded for the tournament. In addition to Clarke's and Clegg's in round two, sophomore Austin Vukovits carded one on the drivable par-four, fifth hole in the first round. He hit his drive to three-feet of the hole and sunk the putt.
Vukovits saved his best performance of the three-day tournament for round three after he dialed up a clean front nine. He finished the round with a one-over, 72.
As a team, State improved its spot on the leaderboard by two places and finished the invitational tied for 11th place. The 7,486-yard Trinity Forest Golf Club played very tough.
"The golf course was very demanding." Clarke said, " You have to pay attention to every little detail out there to be successful, and I think I did I pretty good job overall for the week."
