STARKVILLE – USA Track and Field has finalized its roster for The Match Europe vs. USA next week, and it includes two recent Mississippi State graduates.
Tiffany Flynn and Curtis Thompson will head to Minsk, Belarus, on Sept. 9-10 to compete for the Red, White and Blue against the best athletes Europe has to offer.
"It's an honor for them to represent their country," head coach Chris Woods said. "For Tiffany and Curtis, who have had such exceptional careers, to get this opportunity is exciting. We're looking forward to seeing them represent Mississippi State on an international stage."
Flynn holds school records in both the indoor and outdoor triple jump along with the Bulldogs' freshman record. She is a five-time All-American and finished as the SEC runner-up outdoors this year. Flynn will make her national team debut in the triple jump at 11:07 a.m. CT on Monday, Sept. 9.
Thompson will be representing his country for the fifth time in his career. The former school record holder and 2016 national champion in the javelin, narrowly missed qualifying for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games by 12 centimeters. Since then, he has gone on to earn a gold, silver and bronze medal in various international competitions. Thompson will throw at 1:10 p.m. CT on Tuesday, Sept. 10.
The Match was created to return to the famous intercontinental duels of the 1960s and 70s. Each event will feature four Americans and four Europeans from various nations in the final major competition before the IAAF World Championships in Doha, Qatar, beginning Sept. 27.
