STARKVILLE – A key four-year starter for the Bulldogs, Taryn Holland made a name for herself at Mississippi State from 2006-2009. The 5-11 goalie from Franklin, Tennessee, holds program records in career minutes, games played and games started.
A star at Franklin High School, Holland came to Starkville after closing her prep career with 371 saves and 30 career shutouts. She claimed a pair of 3A state championships, along with All-Region and All-State honors, Midstate Goalkeeper of the Year, and district defensive MVP laurels.
As a freshman in 2006, Holland played in 11 games, starting 10 matches. In 803 minutes, she made a total of 46 saves. Little did she know, her career was just getting started.
The next year her statistics nearly doubled as she started 17 of 19 games, totaling 1,667 minutes. She finished third in the SEC with 104 saves, making 5.47 per game, which ranks seventh in MSU's single-season record book.
Her junior year was even better.
She posted the second-most goalkeeper minutes in single-season history at 1,814. Holland also holds the No. 8 and 9 spots in MSU's top 10. She was named to the SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll and had posted career highs in 2008.
Holland closed her junior year second in career saves with 274, including a career-high 13 saves against Alabama. She played every minute in goal, averaging 90 minutes and 45 seconds per contest.
She posted back-to-back years with 100-plus saves, landing in the single-season record book. She holds a class record in at least one category for every year of her career.
On Senior Day, October 25, she stopped all four shots she faced in her final home match for the 11th shutout of her career. Holland played 69 games, starting 65, and played 5,951. She also holds the Bulldogs' career record with 368 saves and is second in shutouts.
