STARKVILLE - Week One of the NFL season has come to a close, and it is time to take a look at how the 27 former Bulldogs who have gone #FromStateToSundays fared.
Quarterback Dak Prescott turned in a nearly perfect performance in the Dallas Cowboys' 35-17 victory over the New York Giants. Prescott completed 25 of his 32 passing attempts for 405 total yards and four touchdowns to set a franchise record for most pasting yards in a season opener. He became just the fourth player in NFL history to throw for four touchdowns, 400 passing yards and a perfect 158.3 quarterback rating in a game.
Linebacker Preston Smith put on a clinic in his Green Bay debut. Smith totaled five tackles, including 1.5 sacks and a tackle for loss. Applying pressure throughout the contest, Smith added three quarterback hurries and a pass break-up. Smith sealed the 10-3 Green Bay victory over the Chicago Bears with a late sack in the fourth quarter.
Keeping in on lockdown, cornerback Darius Slay tallied a second-quarter pass break-up during Detroit's 27-27 tie with Arizona. The play brought his career pass defenses total to 92, which leads the NFL since 2013.
Three rookie Bulldogs made their professional debuts over the first week of play. Defensive end Montez Sweat earned a start in Washington's season opener versus Philadelphia. Sweat totaled five tackles, including a tackle for loss. Also earning a start, safety Johnathan Abram totaled five tackles and a pass breaku-up in Oakland's 24-16 victory against Denver.Offensive lineman Elgton Jenkins made an appearance on the line in Green Bay's 10-3 victory over the Bears.
