Pan American Juniors Begin Saturday for Horsford

SAN JOSE, Costa Rica – Mississippi State's freshman javelin standout, Tyriq Horsford, will compete at the U20 Pan American Games for his home nation of Trinidad and Tobago on Saturday.
While wearing the red and black earlier this year, Horsford threw 71.45m (234-5) to win gold at the U20 CARIFTA Games. That marked the second of five consecutive meets with a personal best as Horsford exploded onto the NCAA leaderboard. He finished the collegiate season ranked second nationally and was the top freshman.
Horsford finished third as part of State's sweep of the men's javelin, as the Bulldogs became just the 15th program ever to go 1-2-3 in any event at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
The Parlatuvier, Trinidad and Tobago, native will compete at 7:40 p.m. CT. Horsford is one of seven athletes in the field and enters as the top seed with a season-best 78.78m (258-5) throw from the NCAA East Prelims. In his international career, Horsford has won five CARIFTA gold medals and took home silver from the 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games.
