STARKVILLE – Mississippi State's 2019-20 women's basketball schedule is beginning to come into focus with the announcement of two non-conference games.
The Bulldogs will play in the Duel in the Desert Tournament in Las Vegas on Dec. 19-21. MSU won the 2017 Duel in the Desert after defeating host UNLV and a ranked Syracuse squad.
State opens the tournament at 3 p.m. CT on December 19 against South Florida. The Bulldogs will then play either UNLV or Virginia on December 21. The winners will play in the championship game at 3:30 p.m., while the losers play a third-place contest at 1 p.m.
The Bulldogs and Bulls have split the first two meetings in their histories. USF claimed a two-point victory on their home floor in the 2014 WNIT Quarterfinals. MSU responded with a 68-58 victory in the SEC/AAC Challenge during the 2015-16 season.
Should MSU match up with UNLV, it would be the fourth meeting between the programs. The Bulldogs won the previous matchup in the 2017 edition of the tournament, 103-63. Prior to that, the Rebels had claimed consecutive victories in the 1987-87 and 2003-04 seasons.
MSU matched up with Virginia in the previous season, defeating the Cavaliers, 72-44 on Nov. 9 to mark back-to-back wins in the series. In their first meeting, the Bulldogs won 68-53 in Starkville.
Teams will stay at the world-famous New York New York hotel on the Las Vegas Strip. The NYC-themed hotel features a roller coaster, full casino, sports book, and multiple restaurants. For more information about the 2019 Duel in the Desert, visit www.duelindesert.com.
