Allen Earns SEC All-Tournament Team
May 26, 2019 | Baseball
Allen is first Diamond Dawg selected to SEC All-Tournament team since 2016
HOOVER, Ala. – After leading all first basemen in batting average and extra base hits, Mississippi State baseball sophomore Tanner Allen was named to the SEC All-Tournament team following the conclusion of the 2019 SEC Baseball Tournament.
Â
Allen, a first-team All-SEC selection last week, hit .313 in three games at the SEC Tournament, collecting five hits – including two doubles – to account for seven total bases, which led all first basemen at the event. His two RBIs were tied atop the first base charts. He posted a hit in each game, including a 3-for-8 outing at the plate in MSU's 17-inning victory over LSU.
Â
His eight at-bats versus LSU are now tied for the most in a game by a Diamond Dawg in program history.
Â
The all-tournament selection is the first for Mississippi State since 2016, when pitcher Zac Houston earned a spot on the team. That season, Houston pitched a career-best 8 2/3 innings, allowing just four hits, in a 4-1 win over Alabama.
Â
Allen is the fourth first baseman to earn SEC All-Tournament honors, joining Tim Weisheim (1979), John Mitchell (1987) and Tommy Raffo (1990) as Diamond Dawgs to earn all-tournament honors at first base.
