
Mangum Named to SEC Community Service Team

Mangum led all Diamond Dawgs in community service hours during the 2018-19 academic year
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – While his accolades on the field are widely known, senior baseball student-athlete Jake Mangum was honored for his off the field work on Wednesday (May 15), as he was a part of the Southeastern Conference's Community Service Team, as announced by the conference office.
Along with owning the Southeastern Conference and Mississippi State all-time hits records, Mangum led the Diamond Dawgs in community service hours during the 2018-19 academic year. The Pearl, Mississippi native was a part of Athletics Convocation, volunteered with Golden Triangle Outdoors, the
Special Olympics, Batson's Children Hospital and the Challenger League. Over the holiday break, Mangum also helped with the Salvation Army's Red Kettle Campaign.
On the field, Mangum is enjoying his finest season for the Maroon and White, leading the team in batting average (.392), on-base percentage (.443), runs scored (60), hits (93), doubles (20), triples (3) and stolen bases (20). His 368 hits during his four seasons in Starkville sit atop the SEC and MSU career charts, while he currently ranks tied for No. 7 on the NCAA's all-time list.
Mangum is finalizing what will surely be one of the best seasons in program history, as already ranks among the top five in eight categories; hits (1st; 368), batting average (5th; .367), doubles (2nd; 69), triples (T5th; 10), total bases (5th; 472), stolen bases (T5th; 54) and games played (T2nd; 248). He is also currently sixth on the career runs scored charts with 214, just five shy of cracking the top five.

In a continuing effort to recognize the accomplishments of student-athletes beyond the field of competition, the Southeastern Conference names a Community Service Team for each of its 21 league-sponsored sports, looking to highlight student-athletes from each school who gives back to the community through superior service efforts.
The final weekend of the regular season will have the Diamond Dawgs hosting South Carolina in a three-game series that begins on Thursday, May 16. The series opener on Thursday, as well as the Friday, May 17 contest will begin at 6:30 p.m., while the series finale is slated for 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 18. On Thursday, the program will honor its graduates and Friday evening will be Senior Night for the six Bulldog seniors.
