Women’s Golf Top Eight In SEC Championship, Advance To Match Play

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – After a rainy Friday at Greystone Golf Club, the Mississippi State women's golf team's seventh place finish helped them move on to Saturday's quarterfinal match day.
"I am incredibly proud of these young ladies," said head coach Ginger Brown-Lemm. "They were successful in the mental game today, playing in terrible conditions. They were patient and it paid off. We have worked so hard on the process of playing, accepting the results of each shot and problem solving what is next. For two freshmen, two sophomores and a junior to accomplish this step shows how hard they have worked. The future looks incredible for our program."
Sophomore Aubree Jones led State to its seventh-place finish to propel the Bulldogs into the quarterfinals. She carded a trio of birdies, finishing 2-under par (70) in the third round. Jones will head into Saturday's match play tied for 13th.
"It was a grind for all of us today," said Jones. "The conditions were tough between the rain and wind, but we all stayed focused on what we wanted to accomplish and we did just that. It feels great to be in the top 15, but to make it to match play with my teammates beside me feels way better. We're pumped about making it to the weekend and we're going to give it all we have got."
Blair Stockett had a slow start but birdied a couple of holes on the back nine to finish 6-over par and tie for 25th.
Freshman Hannah Levi found some momentum heading into the back nine carding three birdies. She tied for 36th at 9-over par.
Ela Grimwood finished 15-over par and tied for 57th, while Lauren Miller tied for 63rd at 18-over par.
The top eight teams will battle in match play on Saturday. The teams who qualified are Florida, South Carolina, Arkansas, Vanderbilt, Georgia, Auburn, Mississippi State, and Ole Miss.
The Bulldogs will pair with South Carolina, and Jones will tee off first from No. 1 at 7 a.m. CT. Stats can be found on GolfStat.com. Follow along with the Bulldogs on social media @HailStateWG.
