May 06, 2019 | Women's Golf
NORMAN, Okla. — After the first round of the Norman Regional, the Mississippi State women's golf team is tied for third and only three shots from the lead. A host of birdies and a pair of eagles propelled the Bulldogs and put them in strong position to advance to the NCAA Championships.
State shot 1-under par (287) and tied for third at the Jimmie Austin Golf Club.
"We worked hard today," said head coach Ginger Brown-Lemm. "Our belief, perseverance, and choices led us to a great opening round. Being the first NCAA Regional for each member of this team, this shows how much they have in the tank."
Freshman Hannah Levi started the day on fire carding four birdies on the back nine holes. She tallied another birdie on No. 8 to finish 2-under par (70) and tied for sixth place.
Sophomore Blair Stockett had a slow start in the first nine holes, but found some momentum after making the turn. She eagled Nos. 3 and 8 finishing 2-under par. She's tied with teammate Levi for sixth.
Sophomore Aubree Jones carded a pair of birdies in the first round to finish even for the day. She will head into the second round tied for 24th.
Junior Ela Grimwood birdied No. 2 to finish 3-over par (75) and tied for 54th. Clara Moyano finished 9-over par (81) and tied for 88th.
The Bulldogs will tee off No. 1 Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. CT. The top six teams after three rounds will advance to the NCAA Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

MSU Women's Golf Coach Ginger Lemm-Brown:
"We worked hard today. Our belief, perseverance, and choices led us to a great opening round. Being the first NCAA Regional for each member of this team, this shows how much they have in the tank. The time we have dedicated to speed on putting has paid off. Blair Stockett had 24 putts and two eagles on par four's today to finish with 2-under par, 70. Our dedication to wedge improvement shows itself as well. Hannah Levi had five birdies and hit 14 greens in regulation and 30 putts en route to her 2-under par, 70. Aubree Jones also had a great round finishing even with 11 greens and 29 putts. Ela Grimwood handled herself with maturity bogeying two of her first three and playing the 15, left one over. Proud of this team, more for the belief in themselves and their choice to give it all. That will serve us much better than the results driven mentality."
