STARKVILLE – Mississippi State men's golf freshman Ford Clegg earned his second SEC Freshman Golfer of the Week honor of the season on Wednesday.
Clegg shares this week's distinction as Co-Freshman Golfer of the Week with Kentucky's Cullan Brown.
The Birmingham, Alabama native earned the honor after shooting a career-best 9-under 209 to finish tied for 13th Sunday at the Mason Rudolph Championship. Clegg was State's top finisher at the event.
Clegg earned the same honor three weeks prior on March 20 as he concluded a run of four consecutive top-15 finishes at the Schenkel Invitational. He is just the second Bulldog golfer all time to earn two SEC weekly awards, and the first to win multiple in a single season.
In his rookie campaign, Clegg has compiled a 71.63 stroke average, the second-best mark on the team, as well as five top-15 finishes, which is the second most of any SEC freshman golfer.
Clegg is set to make his first appearance at the annual Old Waverly Collegiate Championship Monday (April 15) as the Golf Dawgs host their home event at Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point, Mississippi. The two-day event is free to all and closes the regular season for MSU.
