Pichaikool Earns Arnold Palmer Cup Bid
March 06, 2019 | Men's Golf
STARKVILLE – After his second season listed in the preliminary rankings, Mississippi State men's golf junior Peng Pichaikool has officially been selected to the Arnold Palmer Cup International Team.
As announced Wednesday on the Golf Channel, Pichaikool was listed as the third-ranked male international collegiate golfer, good for an automatic bid to the Arnold Palmer Cup, set for June 7-9 at the Alotian Club in Roland, Arkansas.
"I am so happy for Peng," MSU men's golf coach Dusty Smith said. "It is such a huge accomplishment to represent the International Team at the Arnold Palmer Cup. Peng has worked hard for this and I know he will do a great job representing us at the Palmer Cup this Summer."
In three preliminary rankings this season, Pichaikool started as the fourth-rated player, then moved to third for the final two rankings after a strong fall campaign. Pichaikool made two of the lists during the 2017-18 season.
The top six golfers from the men's and women's United States and International teams - 24 individuals - all received automatic bids to play in the prestigious event and 18 more received committee selections.
Pichaikool is one of two SEC male golfers who made the tournament as a ranking selection. Will Gordon of Vanderbilt was the third-rated player for the United States Team.
Pichaikool has the rest of Mississippi State men's golf spring schedule between now and the Arnold Palmer Cup. The Golf Dawgs start play at the Desert Mountain Intercollegiate Saturday, March 9, in Scottsdale, Arizona.
