OPELIKA, Ala. — After the 54-hole tournament spanning three days in Opelika, Alabama, the Mississippi State women's golf team finished tied for tenth.
"This week was one of the toughest challenges to date for our team," said head coach Ginger Brown-Lemm. It was a national championship quality field, and we competed hard. We were within four shots per round of No. 14 Kent State, within three per day of No. 13 Auburn, No. 9 South Carolina and No. 36 Baylor. We have to do a better job of committing to the shot, swinging free once we commit, and accepting however it ends up. We are young, and these finishing holes were so difficult. We didn't finish strong, but we did make progress on our par 5 scoring. We learned some great lessons and hope to return here for regionals."
Junior Ela Grimwood led the Bulldogs finishing just 4-over par (220) at the Saugahatchee Country Club. She tied for 19th.
Sophomore Aubree Jones rolled in nine birdies over the span of three days helping her to a tie for 27th. She carded a 75 in round three and finished 6-over par (222).
Sophomore Blair Stockett found some momentum in the final round carding a trio of birdies. She finished 12-over par (228) and tied for 42nd.
Freshman Hannah Levi tied for 60th with a score of 231 (+15), and junior Clara Moyano tied for 74th with a score of 235 (+19).
Senior Katie Holt placed 78th with a score of 238, 22-over par.
Florida State took the team title finishing 6-over par (870), while Kent State's Karoline Stormo claimed the individual title with a score of 213, 1-under par.
The Bulldogs will return to action April 8 at the Brickyard Collegiate in Macon, Georgia.
