Baseball’s Moves to No. 2 in National Polls

Diamond Dawgs rise to highest ranking since reaching No. 1 during the 2016 season
STARKVILLE – After taking two of three games in a top-five showdown at Florida over the weekend to open Southeastern Conference play, the Mississippi State baseball program reached its highest national ranking since the 2016 season at No. 2 in five of the six national polls.
The Diamond Dawgs moved into the top five in each of the national polls, including a No.2 ranking from Baseball America, Collegiate Baseball Newspaper, D1Baseball, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and Perfect Game. State was ranked No. 4 in the USA Today Coaches Poll.
The No. 2 ranking is the highest since the program ascended No. 1 during the 14th week of the 2016 campaign. On May 23, 2016, MSU ranked No. 1 in the Collegiate Baseball, National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and Perfect Game polls.
A 14-game winning streak from Feb. 23-March 16 helped Mississippi State quickly climb the rankings, as that streak included six wins over top-25 programs. The winning streak is tied for the fourth-longest winning streak in program history with the 1985 squad's season-opening streak.
A five-game week awaits the Bulldogs, beginning with a midweek contest against Little Rock on Tuesday, March 19 (6:30 p.m.) at Dudy Noble Field. A road tilt at Samford on Wednesday, March 20 will start at 6 p.m., before a weekend series with No. 16 Auburn kicks off on Friday, March 22 at 6:30 at Dudy Noble Field.
