MESA, Ariz. – Sophomore Aubree Jones and junior Ela Grimwood helped the Mississippi State women's golf team to its fifth-place finish on Sunday in the Clover Cup.
The Bulldogs displayed their toughness at the Long Bow Golf Club, which is known for its difficulty. The team finished round three with a 299 (+11).
Head coach Ginger Brown-Lemm likes the improvement her squad is displaying in the late season.
"We had this final round going in a great direction, but struggled finishing it up," said Brown-Lemm. "We are making headway with this young squad, and we learned some good lessons out here in Arizona. I am proud of our progress. Aubree and Ela had top-20 finishes and really had a good weekend overall. We will clean up some things very quickly as we leave for Auburn on Thursday."
Jones battled the conditions for her tie for eleventh with a score of 233 (+7).
"I played solid golf all week on some tough course conditions between the wind and the greens," said Jones. "It was up and down at times, but I was happy with the way I came back and never stopped fighting. I am really looking forward to the rest of this spring with my team. We have some good golf ahead of us."
Grimwood found some momentum on the back nine with a pair of birdies. She finished round three even which pushed her to a tie for 16th.
Freshman Hannah Levi had a top-25 finish with a 227 (+11), while senior Kendall Wisenbaker, playing as an individual, tied for 38th with a score of 231 (+15).
Sophomore Blair Stockett tied for 57th with a 236 (+20), and freshman Lauren Miller tied for 59th with a 237 (+21).
The Bulldogs will return to action on March 23 at Auburn's Evans Derby Experience.
