STARKVILLE – A total of 66 Mississippi State student-athletes were named to the 2018 Fall Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll, SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey announced Thursday.
The 2018 Fall SEC Academic Honor Roll includes the sports of cross country, football, soccer and volleyball. It is based on grades from the 2018 spring, summer and fall semesters. The 2018 fall semester saw MSU student-athletes turn in the highest cumulative GPA in school history with a 3.17.
Twenty-seven members of the Bulldog football team were recognized on the fall honor roll led by senior quarterback Nick Fitzgerald, who collected the honor for the fourth time in his career. Other starters to receive the accolade include Joel Baldwin, Deion Calhoun, Stephen Guidry, Jesse Jackson, Elgton Jenkins, Chris Rayford, Stewart Reese, Austin Williams and Darryl Williams.
Cross country had a program-best 12 selections since the SEC split cross country and track and field selections in 2016. Shannon Fair earned the award for all four-years on the team. There were three first-time honorees with Katherine Badham, Audrey Honiotes and Alon Lewis etching their name in the history books.
Charlotte Cayton-Smith, Mia Meydrich, Stephanie Peterson, Alyssa Staubach, Carly Terp, Kristy Terp, Emma Tucker and Alex Wallace were also honored for their performances in the classroom for cross country.
Women's soccer boasted 74 percent of its roster on the list, with 20 of its 27 student-athletes earning recognition. Courtney Robicheaux earned the selection all four-years on the team. There were 14 first-time honorees: Miranda Carrasco, Andrea Compper, Hailey Farrington-Bentil, Liz Fogarty, Megan Henry, Olivia Hernandez, Kristen Malebranche, Zakirah McGillivary, Brooke McKee, Hayden Oswalt, Claire Ross, Zoe Smith, AK Ward, Peyton York.
Sam Blanchard earned a spot on the list for the second time. Rhylee DeCrane, Jen Huckaby, Carly Mauldin and MaKayla Waldner all found themselves on the list for a third time.
With its highest number of student-athletes receiving the honor since the 2010 season, volleyball added seven to the list. Liv Benner represented volleyball for the second straight year majoring in landscape architecture. Freshman Gabby Waden was the only freshman on the squad to earn honors.
The SEC First-Year Honor Roll, which recognizes true freshmen and those transfers that have played their first season in the conference, will be announced later this spring.
