Bulldogs Trek to North Carolina for Duke Invitational

STARKVILLE – Continuing a five-game road swing, Mississippi State softball treks to Durham, North Carolina, to compete in the Duke Invitational at the Duke Softball Stadium this weekend.
Mississippi State opens the tournament on Friday, March 1 with a doubleheader slate against Ohio University at 12 p.m. CT before taking on the host Blue Devils at 6 p.m. CT.
The tournament concludes on Saturday, March 2 with a game against Kansas at 11 a.m. CT and a rematch with Duke at 1 p.m. CT. Both of State's contests against the Blue Devils will be streamed on the ACC Network Extra.
Last night, the Bulldogs used late-inning dramatics to complete a comeback victory over Memphis. Trailing by a run in the top of the seventh, Mia Davidson knocked a two-out grand slam, her 10th home run of the season, to lift MSU to a 10-7 triumph.
Davidson and junior Fa Leilua continued to dominate the plate with 10 home runs each, a mark that not only leads the Southeastern Conference, but also all of Division I softball. With just 16 games of the season complete, both Davidson and Leilua are ranked tied for ninth on MSU's single-season annuals.
Junior Alyssa Loza leads the Bulldog pitching staff with a 4-1 record and team-low 1.66 earned run average. The right-hander ranks fifth in the SEC with two shutouts and have a save to her credit. Sophomore Emily Williams also boast a 4-1 record and the leads the team with 50 strikeouts.
