STARKVILLE – Mississippi State's women's basketball team climbed back into the top five in both the Associated Press Top 25 and USA Today Coaches' polls this week. The No. 5 Bulldogs defeated Ole Miss and Vanderbilt last week.
MSU has now been among the top five for four weeks this season. It is State's 91st consecutive week appearing in the AP poll, the sixth-longest active streak in the nation. The Bulldogs have been a top 10 team for 55 straight weeks, which is the fourth-longest active streak.
The Bulldogs are the nation's No. 3 scoring offense, averaging 87.3 ppg. Its 56.8 ppg allowed is 29th in the country, but the Dawgs boast the highest scoring margin (+30.4) in Division I. MSU tops the SEC in FG% (49.2%), assist/turnover ratio (1.3), assists (16.7 apg), rebound margin (+14.1), offensive rebounding (17.9 rpg) and scoring offense.
State tops the SEC standings with a 13-1 mark in league play. The Bulldogs can clinch at least a share of the regular-season conference title with a win on Thursday. MSU could win the title outright that night with a win and a South Carolina loss.
MSU will host LSU on Thursday, Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. CT for its final regular-season home game of the year. The contest will air on SEC Network+ and Senior Night ceremonies will follow the game. The Bulldogs will then close conference play against the No. 14/15 Gamecocks in Columbia, South Carolina, on Sunday, March 3 at 1 p.m. on ESPN2.
