PEORIA, Ariz. – Junior Ela Grimwood had her best outing as a member of the Mississippi State women's golf team, setting multiple personal bests en route to a top 15 finish and helping the Bulldogs tie for fifth place at the Westbrook Invitational at Westbrook Village Club.
Grimwood carded 13 birdies in the 54-hole tournament to boost her to a 3-under par finish, which tied for eleventh.
"This weekend really showed me what I am capable of," Grimwood said. "I knew I was putting well and had a chance to make anything that was on the green. With my irons going well too, I had a lot of confidence. I think the weather in Starkville [last week] that pushed us inside meant we spent a lot of time working on short game, which made me that much more confident over my putts. Being in a good position after yesterday was very exciting for all of us. Overall, I think this was a great start to the spring, and people should watch and see because we have some great things coming."
Head coach Ginger Brown-Lemm looks forward to seeing her team apply lessons learned from this weekend.
"I am proud of this team," said Brown-Lemm. "We learned what it is like to be in contention and took away irreplaceable lessons from that. We didn't play as free as we needed to today, but being in that final pairing is a necessary learning day for us. Ela was low for the team, and I super proud of her commitment to the process."
Sophomore Blair Stockett gained momentum from her success Sunday to finish even and tied for 22nd.
Sophomore Aubree Jones and freshman Hannah Levi fired identical scores of 72 to finish tied for 24th at 1-over 217.
Senior Katie Holt rallied from the first day to card a 72 in the third round. She tied for 43rd with a 3-over par, 219, while junior Clara Moyano tied for 66th scoring 6-over 222.
Nebraska claimed the team title at 11-under par, while Ohio State's Aneka Seumanutafa took the individual title at 12-under par.
The Bulldogs will return to action on March 15 at the Clover Cup in Meso, Arizona.
