Kid Coach is a partnership between Children's of Mississippi and the Mississippi State Bulldogs to salute pediatric patients.
This week's Children's of Mississippi Kid Coach is Richie Southard of Vicksburg.
When he was only a year old, Richie was taken to Batson Children's Hospital. After a series of tests, he was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. Two years later, doctors at the Eli Manning Children's Clinics diagnosed him with celiac disease.
Thanks in part to the care he receives at Batson Children's Hospital, Richie is as active as any 5-year-old. He loves superheroes and is "the dance king of the family." He even got to show off his fancy tuxedo and share the spotlight with Miss Mississippi during the annual pageant in his hometown!
