TEMPE, Ariz. – A quartet of Bulldogs will represent Mississippi State women's tennis in their final event of the 2019 fall slate at the Thunderbird Invitational beginning Friday in Tempe, Arizona.
The tournament, hosted by Arizona State, will be held at the Whiteman Tennis Center. In addition to Arizona State, nine teams will join the Bulldogs in action, including California, Kansas, Kansas State, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, San Diego, Texas Tech and Washington. All 11 teams appearing this weekend were ranked among the top 60 in last year's final ITA team rankings with Washington (10), Kansas (13) and Michigan (14) finishing in the top 15.
Magda Adaloglou, Emma Antonaki, Valeria Nikolaev and Meredith Roberts will compete for the Maroon & White.
Nikolaev, who posted her first collegiate singles victories at the Roberta Alison Fall Classic this past weekend, looks to continue her two-match win streak in Arizona. Adaloglou and Antonaki have each compiled four singles wins this fall while Roberts has tallied two.
Doubles action will commence at 3:30 p.m. CT Friday as one of State's duos will take on a pair from Arizona State. Simultaneously, MSU's second doubles team will face a Texas Tech tandem.
Singles will follow as half of the Bulldogs will battle student-athletes from Arizona State and the other two MSU entries will compete against Texas Tech players.
Adaloglou and Nikolaev will pair up for the first time ever in Friday's doubles action, while Antonaki and Roberts make up MSU's second tandem, also as a first-time duo.
Due to the unique tournament format, all pairings are subject to change throughout the weekend.
Results for the tournament will be updated throughout the weekend at tournament headquarters.
