STARKVILLE – In just two years wearing the Maroon and White, Jessi Moore made an impact the Mississippi State's soccer program will never forget.
In her freshman year, Moore played in all 21 games, matching the school record. She started 20 of those. That year she set season records for assists (16) and assists per game (0.76). She also claims many top-10 marks in other single-season categories.
The Grapevine, Texas, native came to Starkville as part of a dynamic duo. Her fellow freshman, Amy Van Zandt, who was also named to MSU's 25th season all-time team, provided the scoring for Moore's assists. Moore ranks second for most points in a season (38), trailing only Van Zandt, and the pair is tied for most shots attempted with 76.
The duo led the Bulldogs to the SEC West title and the first SEC Tournament appearance in school history in 2001, posting a 13-8-0 record (5-4-0 SEC). The depth of talent on the roster makes Moore's individual accomplishments even more impressive.
She earned First Team All-SEC honors, the only Bulldog to do so that year. She was also a Third Team All-Central Region selection by both NSCAA and Soccer Buzz and an honorable mention Freshman All-American by Soccer Buzz.
In her sophomore season, Moore took the field and once again reordered the record book. The forward lead State in scoring with 24 points, goals (8), assists (8) and tied for the team lead in shots (76).
Moore remains the career record holder with 24 assists at State. As then-head coach Neil McGuire said in the 2002 media guide, she was "creative and skilled" but loved to "bring other players into the game."
State struggled in her sophomore season, going 6-13-1, and Moore would leave Starkville at the end of the season. In just two years, she also collected 62 points, which ranks second in school history along with the sixth-most goals (19) in Bulldog history.
