Men's Golf Signs Three On National Signing Day

STARKVILLE – Mississippi State men's golf adds three members to the Bulldog family Wednesday.
Loic Ettlin of Basel, Switzerland, Harrison Davis of Fort Payne, Ala. and Pedro Cruz Silva of Lourosa, Portugal will sign their national letters of intent to make a full 2020 signing class for State.
"We are very excited to welcome Loic, Pedro, and Harrison to the Mississippi State golf family. I believe these three young men have the right character and make up to be champions and to bring our program to new heights," head coach Dusty Smith said. "They are highly motivated individuals who hold themselves to a standard of excellence in everything they do. Coach [Charlie] Ewing and I try to find guys who fit our culture and who are internally motivated in every aspect of life. We believe these signees will represent Mississippi State well."
Ettlin, the number one amateur golfer in Switzerland and a member of the Swiss Golf Elite National Team, is coming off an appearance in the 2019 Spirit International. He is a two time Swiss Junior Player of the Year and won the Championat National at the Hittnau Golf Club in Zürich. He was a member of the 2018 and 2019 Jacques Léglise team. The Jacques Léglise Trophy is an annual international match played between two selected teams of nine amateur boy golfers representing Great Britain & Ireland and the Continent of Europe. This year Ettlin also won the 2019 Swiss National Juniors. He also represented Switzerland at the 2019 Toyota Junior World Golf Cup.
"Loic is a very experienced golfer worldwide. He has earned his way into several prestigious golf tournaments around the world and performed at a very high level. He is a proven winner and a great competitor," Smith said. "Team golf is very familiar and important to him as he has represented his country and Europe in several team events throughout his junior golf career."
Davis prepped at Fort Payne High School and the Alabama native claimed the 2017 6A individual state title with a score of 143. He placed top three at the 2019 Future Masters in Dothan, Ala. as well as the Bubba Conlee National Junior. Davis also won the Burning Tree Junior Golf Classic (SJGT) this past July, played at the Burningtree Country Club.
"Harrison is one of the more athletic and naturally gifted players we have recruited to Mississippi State. He has great technique and fundamentals mixed with a really strong mindset and a lot of confidence," Smith said. "He has been very competitive across the Southeast, especially in his home state of Alabama. He has really grown as a player this past year and his ceiling is very high. He is going to bring an attitude to this team that will be very valuable for his four years."
Rounding out the signing class, Cruz made the cut at an international professional event, Open de Portgual where he finished as the low amateur. He also played in the Portugal Masters and was the Campeonato Note Sub 25 Champion. At a national level he is a 2x Vice National Champion U18, Vice Men's National Champion, 4x National Champion of ClubsU18 and 2x National Champion of Men's Clubs.
"Pedro is another player who is very experienced. He has represented his country of Portugal in several team and individual events around Europe. He is very self-motivated, gritty and determined and will bring a high level of intensity to our program. He understands how important it is to be a part of a team and we trust that he will lead by example throughout his entire career."

2019 Jacques Leglise Team Continent of Europe - Helped Europe secure the win after winning multiple matches and was the clinching point by beating Luke O'Niell. With partner Adam Wallin, the duo took down highly ranked Joe Padgin (15 in WAGR) and Barclay Brown (380 in WAGR).
