STARKVILLE – Mississippi State soccer will host its annual breast cancer awareness match against Auburn on Thursday night. The Bulldogs will wear pink uniforms in a match set for 6 p.m. CT on SEC Network+.
The first 150 fans will receive pink miniature cowbells, and fans with cowbells will have the opportunity to win up to $300 in gift cards. All fans can enjoy free pizza along with cookies and ice cream while supplies last. Thursday's match will also offer up to 300 HailState Rewards points and 150 Bully's Kids Club points.
Head coach James Armstrong gets his first opportunity to meet his former team from the opposite bench. During his time as an assistant with the Tigers, Auburn went 5-0-1 against MSU without allowing a goal.
"Auburn's a massive game for us because it's the next game," Armstrong said. "It's another game, and a game both teams will want to win. They're the biggest opponents we've had come in so far. They're on a great streak with nine points so far. They're playing some great soccer."
State has not won a match in the series since 2011, but all of the Bulldogs' wins against Auburn have come at home. MSU has picked up points against the Tigers six times with all but one of those matches being played in Starkville.
A win on Thursday would give MSU seven points at the midway point of the conference slate, which would be its best five-match start in the league since 2002. Armstrong is looking to secure the best conference record through five matches of any head coach in MSU soccer history with a victory.
The Bulldogs are currently tied for ninth in the conference table with four points. They'll meet a ranked Arkansas squad that is tied for third in the league on Sunday in Fayetteville. Kickoff against the Razorbacks is set for 1 p.m. CT on SEC Network+.
