3 Stats To Know On QB Garrett Shrader

STARKVILLE – Mississippi State's Garrett Shrader has been arguably the top freshman quarterback in the nation this season. Shrader, an electric athlete from Charlotte Christian School in North Carolina who won back-to-back state titles, has seen action in seven games (three starts) for the Bulldogs. Here's three stats to know on the young signal-caller:
1. Shrader is one of three Power 5 players to throw for 1,000+ yards and rush for 500+ yards this season, joining Oklahoma's Jalen Hurts and Oklahoma State's Spencer Sanders. Among the three, Shrader has played in one fewer game, has the fewest rushing attempts and fewest passing attempts.
2. Shrader is the only SEC player with 50+ passing first downs and 25+ rushing first downs in 2019. Of his 75 completions, 50 have resulted in a first down. On the ground, he leads the SEC among quarterbacks and ranks seventh overall with 29 first downs.
3. Shrader is averaging 218.0 yards of total offense per game. That figure ranks fourth in the Power 5 among true freshmen and fifth in the SEC overall.
