Waldner Named to SEC Community Service Team

STARKVILLE – MaKayla Waldner has added SEC Community Service Team honors to her extensive resume, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Mississippi State's leading scorer also leads the Bulldogs in service hours. She has volunteered in Starkville with the Salvation Army's Red Kettle Campaign, multiple fun runs and the Boys and Girls Club. She has also visited local elementary schools to read to children and walk students into class.
This summer, she went on a mission trip to Colombia where she helped build a pool and run soccer camps for children. She has also visited LeBonheur Children's Hospital with the soccer team to help comfort children and their families.
"Volunteering in this community doesn't feel like work for me," Waldner said. "Starkville is a family, even beyond the university, and the support this town has given me is something I will always be thankful for. Volunteering is my chance to give back to this great community."
Waldner is an active member in FCA and represents the soccer team on the Student-Athlete Advisory Council. She was her teammates' unquestioned choice for captain with nearly twice as many votes as MSU's second and third captains.
On the field, the senior from Dexter, Missouri, has scored 27 goals in her career, which ranks second in program history. She holds school records for game-winning goals both in a single season and in a career. This year, she leads the team in goals (9) and points (19) and leads all SEC midfielders in the same categories.
The Bulldogs will close the season at Missouri at 7:15 p.m. CT on Thursday night. The match will air in full on SEC Network+ with whip-around coverage of every league match airing on SEC Network's "Reach the Beach" special.
State will need a win to earn their way into the SEC Tournament for the first time since 2004. The Bulldogs will also need Auburn or Georgia to lose or Tennessee to lose or tie to land a tournament berth.
