by Brian Ogden, Assistant Coordinator/Communications
STARKVILLE – Mississippi State will host Tennessee at 1 p.m. CT on SEC Network+ on Sunday as the Bulldogs celebrate their senior class.
Senior Day festivities will begin at 12:50 p.m., and MSU will have plenty of additional promotions for fans in attendance. Sunday is also the Bulldogs' camper reunion game and Starkville Soccer Association day. Free candy will be given out as part of the Dawgs' "Trunk or Treat" promotion and the fan with the best costume will win a $100 gift card.
"We are excited to play our final home match in front of a great crowd," head coach James Armstrong said. "This team is working so hard to finish the season playing our best soccer, and that's the focus for us tomorrow."
Sunday's opponents were tied for the last SEC Tournament berth entering play on Thursday. State picked up one point in the SEC standings with a draw at LSU, but the Volunteers earned three with an upset of No. 20 Florida to separate the squads. With a win on Sunday, MSU would get back above the cutline and set up a win-and-in situation for the final match of the regular season next week.
The Bulldogs have not defeated Tennessee since 2006 and have just two wins in the series. A win would give State three consecutive eight-win seasons for the first time in program history. That sustained success has allowed the 2019 senior class to boast the fifth-most wins in program history (31). Winning would push the seniors into a tie for fourth with 32 victories.
MaKayla Waldner scored the 27th goal of her career on Thursday and now ranks fourth all-time with 57 career points. Another goal would push her into a tie for third-most by a Bulldog and make her just the fifth 10-goal scorer in MSU history. State is unbeaten this year when Waldner scores.

Fast Facts
- MaKayla Waldner has matched her sophomore campaign with 19 points for 10th in MSU single-season history. Her current pace of 1.19 points per game is tied for ninth in the single-season record book.
- With one more goal, Waldner will become just the fifth MSU player to post 10 goals in a season. Elisabeth Sullivan was the last to do so, and achieved the feat in both 2013 (16) and 2012 (12). The goal would also put her in a tie for third all-time in career points (57).
- Waldner is the only current senior to have played all four years of her career at MSU, but she is tied for the fifth-most wins in program history (31).
- State's non-conference schedule ranked 15th this year, with three matches against ranked teams. That's third among SEC teams behind Texas A&M (9th) and Arkansas (12th).
- The Bulldogs have already matched last year's point total in the SEC standings with eight points.
- A win Sunday would put State back above the cutline for the SEC Tournament and guarantee a win-and-in scenario in the final match of the regular season at Missouri.
