STARKVILLE – Louisiana native, Angie DeLage, came a fledging to Mississippi State's soccer program with numerous records, honors and championship appearances from high school. She was ready to make a name for herself with the Bulldogs, and she definitely accomplished that and more.
A key player for the 1995 and 1997 team, the midfielder, remains in the top-five in program history for assists and assists per game for her career. DeLage is widely remembered for assists not only in the record book, but also by her teammates and coaches.
William B. Findley II, who led the first five Bulldog squads immediately recognized her talent.
"She can play anywhere in the top six. She is a quality flanker with good attacking skill," Findley said in the 1997 media guide. "Angie did a tremendous job for us as a freshman in 1995. We think Angie is going to be a tremendous asset to us somewhere in the midfield or at forward."
Her freshman year was indeed a memorable one. With 16 minutes left in State's first match against Ole Miss, DeLage found the back of the net after receiving a pass from Ann McBride. It would prove to be the game's only goal, giving MSU its first ever SEC victory.
On top of her historic goal, she also led the team in assists (7), which was tied for third in the SEC and tied for ninth in the 27-team Central Region. She ended the year ranked second on the team in shots (22) and points (13). She remains tied for sixth in the single-season record book (1995).
As a sophomore, she played in three games while earning an assist before redshirting the rest of the season.
Junior year, DeLage was ready to prove herself after coming off of a redshirt season. Her shooting abilities and shot selection was a key factor to the team's offense. She tallied up seven more assists in 1997, tying her for third-most in a career (15). She was third all-time with 15 on her career (1995-97).
She also had a great eye for finding goals at the right time. Four of her assists came on what stood as game-winning goals.
