MSU Women’s Tennis Set For ITA Southern Regional Championships

BATON ROUGE, La. – The Mississippi State women's tennis team hits the road to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, this weekend for the ITA Southern Regional Championships, with the main draw beginning Friday, Oct. 18.
The tournament, hosted by LSU, will be held at the LSU Tennis Complex, with other matches played at the UREC Tennis Courts on campus. The field features 15 schools from the states of Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi, highlighted by SEC opponents in Auburn, Alabama, LSU and Ole Miss. Jacksonville State, Louisiana-Lafayette, McNeese, Nicholls, Samford, Southern Miss, Troy, Tulane, UAB and ULM will also compete.
All eight Bulldogs will see action in this year's ITA Regionals, with seven in the main draw of singles and all eight competing in the doubles main draw. Emma Antonaki (2), Magda Adaloglou (4) and Alexandra Mikhailuk (9) have earned top-10 seeds in singles. In doubles, the pair of Adaloglou and Tamara Racine and the duo of Antonaki and Mikhailuk are seeded No. 2 and No. 7, respectively.
Play begins Friday morning at 9 a.m. CT with the first round of the 32-team doubles raw followed by two rounds of the 64-player singles field.
Mikhailuk leads the squad with a 4-2 singles record this fall. The rookie is coming off of a 2-1 performance in the ITA All-American Championships prequalifying draw. She will partner with the 41st-ranked sophomore Antonaki in doubles. The duo holds a 3-2 record in tournament play, including a victory at the ITA All-American Championships.
State's 14th-ranked tandem of Adaloglou and Racine and the pair of Marta Falceto and Valeria Nikolaev will also compete this weekend, while Sara Lizariturry and Meredith Roberts will play together for the first time this fall. The redshirt freshman Nikolaev is also expected to see her first-ever singles action as a Bulldog this weekend.
