FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Mississippi State soccer will meet its fifth ranked opponent of the year when the Bulldogs play at No. 13/23 Arkansas at 1 p.m. CT on SEC Network+ on Sunday.
The Bulldogs claimed their first win against Auburn since 2011 on Thursday, and MSU will look to break another long series skid on Sunday. Though the teams played to a scoreless draw last year, State has not claimed a win against Arkansas since 2015, which was MSU's only road win in the series.
Arkansas enters the match having allowed just three goals all season and have not allowed multiple goals in any game. The Razorbacks boast wins over then-No. 1 North Carolina and then-No. 15 Vanderbilt. They lead the SEC in both goals (36) and assists (43).
"The team has done a great job of preparing themselves for what we know will be a very tough opponent," head coach James Armstrong said. "We are looking forward to tomorrow"
State's defense will need to stop an explosive Arkansas attack that averages 16.8 shots per game. The Bulldogs have held eight opponents below their season average this year and are holding teams to 11.1 attempts per game, which would be a school record.
With a win, the Bulldogs would secure their first 10-point season in conference play since 2015 and sixth in school history. It would also mark the first time since 2015 that MSU has won two road games in league play. The Bulldogs bring in a 3-1-0 record in road matches. A fourth road win would rank third in State's single-season history.
In their last match, State saw its sixth player score her first career goal when Onyi Echegini opened the scoring. The Bulldogs' depth has been on display this season with nine different goal scorers and 17 players recording at least one point.

Fast Facts
- MaKayla Waldner is one of five SEC players with multiple multi-goal games. She has five for her career, which ranks second in school history.
- With two more goals, Waldner will become just the fifth MSU player to post 10 goals in a season. Sullivan was the last to do so, and achieved the feat in both 2013 (16) and 2012 (12).
- Waldner is just a goal shy of matching her sophomore campaign with 19 points. That would be tied for 10th in MSU single-season history. Her current pace of 1.31 points per game would rank sixth in the single-season record book.
- The Bulldogs have created three goals in their past two games off of Hailey Zerbel's flip throw-in. In 2018, Zerbel picked up two assists off the throw-in against Alabama as she became the first Bulldog in school history with three assists in an SEC match.
- Since the start of the 2017 season, MSU is 23-3-2 when scoring first. All-time, the Bulldogs are 148-37-6 when they net the first goal of a match.
- State has played 24 players this year with 17 different starters. Five players have started every match, but the Bulldogs have used 10 different starting lineup combinations.
