STARKVILLE – Despite missing nearly two full seasons due to injury, Skylar Rosson still left her mark as one of the best goalkeepers in the history of Mississippi State's soccer program.
Rosson suffered a knee injury in preseason practice, forcing her to redshirt her freshman season. The next year as a redshirt freshman, Rosson saw action in three matches, making eight saves without allowing a goal. Unfortunately, another knee injury cut her second season in Starkville short.
She would return for the next three seasons to re-write the MSU record book. It started with her sophomore year when she set State's single-season record for both saves (110) and saves per game (6.47).
She would break both of those records in 2011. Rosson still holds program records with 131 saves and 7.28 per game as a junior. She tallied four shutouts and ranks among the top five in MSU history in save percentage (.819). Her 1,678 minutes in net that year ranks fourth in the Bulldogs' record book.
On Oct. 7, 2011, Rosson set a program record with 19 saves in a single game against Georgia. That remains the last time a Bulldog had more than 15 saves in a match. She is also tied for eighth with 13 saves in a 1-0 victory against Florida that same year, which earned her SEC Defensive Player of the Week honors.
During her senior season, Rosson continued to top her own records. She posted a 1.48 goals against average along with five shutouts. She won nine matches, which is tied for second in single-season history.
Rosson's season records set the standard – most still stand today.
In the career record book, she lands among the top ten in every goalkeeper category. Rosson holds the top spot in shutouts (12) and in goalkeeper wins (22). She ranks second in total saves (337), games started (53), games played (55) minutes (4,726). Her 6.13 saves per game ranks third, and she remains in the top ten with a .776 save percentage.
