PASADENA, Calif. — One of the top offensive guards in the Southeastern Conference the last two seasons, Mississippi State's Deion Calhoun will play in his final college football game on Saturday.
Calhoun will suit up for the National team, coached by Mike Tice, at the eighth annual NFLPA Collegiate Bowl, which is played at the historic Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, California. The game will begin at 4 p.m. CT and will be televised on FS1.
Saturday's contest will culminate a week-long experience during which the participants learned about the business of football. Calhoun will be the fifth student-athlete in MSU history to participate in the game and the first since offensive lineman Jamaal Clayborn and defensive end Johnathan Calvin in 2017.
An All-SEC second-team selection by the coaches in 2018, Calhoun helped the Bulldogs rank second in the SEC in both rushing yards per game (223.6) and yards per rush (5.7) and pave the way for an SEC-best four games with 300 or more rushing yards.
Calhoun, from Pleasant Grove, Alabama, allowed only two sacks over 356 pass-blocking snaps as a senior, according to Pro Football Focus. He earned a 74.7 pass-blocking grade for the season from PFF, his highest since 2016. Calhoun was named SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week for his performance on Senior Day against Arkansas on Nov. 17. He registered two knockdowns, did not allow a sack and anchored an offensive line that paved the way for the offense to rush for 287 yards (102 to his side according to PFF) against the Razorbacks.
Over his four-year career at MSU, Calhoun played in 48 games and finished with 36 starts and allowed only three sacks across 1,200 snaps in pass protection. He graduated from MSU in December 2018.
