NORMAN, Okla. – Sophomore Blair Stockett had one of her best outings as a member of the Mississippi State women's golf team, setting multiple personal bests en route to a Top 20 finish at the Schooner Fall Classic in Norman, Oklahoma.
Stockett tallied five birdies in her third round to register her best 54-hole tally as a Bulldog with a 2-under-par 210 She secured a 19th-place finish behind a personal-low 69 in Sunday's final round.
"It was a fun way to start my sophomore year, and I'm looking forward to the rest of the season with this team," Stockett said.
Freshman Hannah Levi and sophomore Aubree Jones fired identical scores of 76 on Sunday to finish tied for 38th at 2-over 215.
The duo helped lead the Bulldogs to an 11th-place team finish with a 17-over 869.
"Overall, the golf tournament had shimmers of success. Each of the girls had their individual good rounds; however, today was a disappointment," head coach Ginger Brown-Lemm said. "We didn't follow our plan and self-imposed pressure got to us. We were pushing too hard and not being patient. Hopefully we will learn from that, and be ready for our home tournament in a few weeks.
"Blair Stockett had a fabulous tournament as an individual. With her Top-20 finish, she will be exempt and play the No. 1 position in our home event. We have real talent in these ladies this year. I look forward to continuing to coach and mentor them into more consistent performances. In the bigger picture, we averaged around five-over par, which is a significant improvement from our first outing in Michigan."
Freshman Lauren Miller had her best round of the weekend with a personal-low 1-under 70. Sunday's tally moved her 10 spots up the standings into a tie for 44th with a 217.
Coming off a strong performance in round two, Clara Moyano finished 3-over in Sunday's round at the par-71 Belmar Golf Club to cap the weekend in a tie for 59th with a 223.
Ela Grimwood shot a 77 for the second-straight day and finished 78th with a 232.
Alabama won the team title behind individual medalist Jiwan Jeon.
MSU next action comes October 14-16 as the Bulldogs co-host the second Magnolia Invitational with Ole Miss. Admission to all three rounds is free to the public.
