STARKVILLE, Miss. – It will be "Home Sweet Home" for the Mississippi State women's golf team this week.
The Bulldogs welcome a tough field to the second Magnolia Invitational that begins Sunday at Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point, Mississippi.
Mississippi State and in-state counterpart Ole Miss co-host the three-day event that concludes Tuesday at Old Waverly, which has been labeled one of the top golf courses in the southeast.
Admission for all three days is free.
"What an honor to bring 12 other top teams to our home and showcase not only our world-class facilities, but our southern hospitality," MSU head coach Ginger Brown-Lemm said. "The membership and staff of Old Waverly make this experience a world-class tournament for these collegiate players. We are excited to get out there and play within ourselves. We have a plan, and our team can't wait to compete."
Mississippi State will have two teams vying for the title at the 54-hole event.
The lineup of veterans Katie Holt and Kendall Wisenbaker, sophomore Blair Stockett, and freshmen Hannah Levi and Lauren Miller tees off No. 1 Sunday morning starting at 8:50 a.m.
Stockett earned the opportunity to play in the top spot after putting together a top 20 finish at the Schooner Fall Classic with a 3-under-par 210.
The other MSU lineup consisting of Ela Grimwood, Aubree Jones, Clara Moyano, Athena Yang and Teri Doss opens play on No. 10 Sunday at 8:30 a.m.
State will honor the memory of "Super Gabe" Valentine in this year's tournament by carrying the bag that was specially made for the avid Mississippi State fan who battled Epidermolysis Bullosa. "Super Gabe" passed away on June 7, 2017, but the team continues to recognize his bravery during his fight and his endless support for all things Mississippi State.
In addition to MSU and Ole Miss, the 10-team field includes fellow SEC members Auburn and LSU. East Tennessee State, Virginia Tech, Coastal Carolina, Southern Mississippi, Kansas State, Memphis, Kennesaw State, Oklahoma and Middle Tennessee complete the field.
Fans unable to attend can follow the Bulldogs throughout the three-day event on Golfstat.com.
