Jones Paces Dawgs In Schooner Classic First Round

NORMAN, Okla. – Aubree Jones' season debut was a strong one, as her 69 put her in the Top 10 following Friday's opening round at the Schooner Fall Classic in Norman, Oklahoma.
Jones birdied four times to wrap the round 2-under-par and tied for 10th.
"It was a good day today," Jones said. "I felt confident and trusted my game. It's been a battle the last few months, and to have a day like today is a great feeling."
Jones' stellar round, combined with strong showings from her teammates, put State in 10th place with a 290.
Freshmen Lauren Miller and Hannah Levi both helped the Dawgs to the big finish, firing three birdies on the back nine. Miller wrapped the day tied for 22nd with an even-par 71, and Levi followed behind inn32nd with a 1-over 72.
State's response to end the day had Coach Ginger Brown-Lemm and her squad eager for tomorrow's round at the Belmar Golf Club.
"We had a rough start, but with lots of golf left to play, we focused on making birdies and finished No.18 4-under par. That's only four shots away for the top 5," Brown-Lemm said. "We can't wait to get back on the course tomorrow.".
Veterans Ela Grimwood and Clara Moyano will look to bounce back after wrapping Friday 7-over-par and 8-over-par, respectively.
Sophomore Blair Stockett also had an outstanding debut, shooting a 71 to sit alongside Miller in 22nd.
Alabama's Lauren Stephenson and Texas' Sara Kouskova share the lead at 5-under
and have their teams atop the leaderboard.
Tomorrow's action will begin at 10:30 a.m. CT on No. 10 with Clara Moyano leading the way.
