Soccer Earns First Ranking in Program History

STARKVILLE – Mississippi State is ranked No. 19 in this week's TopDrawerSoccer.com poll. The ranking is the Bulldogs' first in program history.

MSU has received votes in the United Soccer Coaches' poll for four consecutive weeks, but had not been considered for TopDrawer's poll this year.

"We are very proud of this recognition and where we are in this program," head coach Tom Anagnost said. "We also know we have a big task in Florida on Friday night which is the focus. We have a long way to go and a lot of hard work ahead of us."

The Bulldogs (8-2-0, 1-2-0 SEC) defeated No. 13/6 South Carolina in overtime on Thursday in front of a school-record crowd. State then traveled to No. 19/14 Tennessee on Sunday and kept the match scoreless for 87 minutes before losing a heartbreaker.

The Maroon and White has been anchored by stellar play from its back line and goalkeeper Rhylee DeCrane. DeCrane's only goal allowed on Thursday came off a penalty kick, and the redshirt senior saved a second penalty kick against the Volunteers. She posted a season-high six saves against South Carolina. Meanwhile, the Bulldog defense is holding opponents under 10.0 shots per game.

United Soccer Coaches will release its poll on Tuesday. MSU will host Florida on Friday, Sept. 28. Kickoff against the Gators is set for 7 p.m. CT with the match set to air on SEC Network+.
