Bulldogs Close Out the Weekend With a Loss

DENTON, Texas -To close out the last match of non-conference play, Mississippi State volleyball dropped a three-set match to Stephen F. Austin on Saturday (Sept. 15).

Mississippi State (4-9) fell to Stephen F. Austin (13-2) by scores of 25-16, 25-15, 25-15.

Mississippi State came out with energy to start the set, but struggled to find its rhythm early. State was leading 6-5 before Stephen F. Austin went on a four-point run to lead 9-6. Mississippi State countered with four points of its own thanks to a kill and three SFA errors, but it was not enough as the Ladyjacks went on a roll off of kills. Amarrah Cooks had two kills and two blocks. Deja Robinson and AJ Koele both contributed two kills. Mississippi State tallied 3.0 blocks in comparison to SFA's 1.0.Â

The Bulldogs and the Ladyjacks came out swinging as there were nine kills in a row to keep the score tight at eight all. From there, Stephen F. Austin took advantage of errors by MSU to gain a strong lead, 19-11. SFA went on to take the set. Robinson had three kills, one dig and two blocks. Taylor Haskins and Kendall Murr both had four digs.

Mississippi State struggled against Stephen F. Austin's attack game. The Ladyjacks went on to win the set, 25-15. Stephen F. Austin hit .464 with 16 kills, and Mississippi State hit .212 with 12 kills.Â

Next weekend, Mississippi State begins Southeastern Conference play. The Bulldogs are on the road for matches against South Carolina (Sept. 21) and No. 11 Florida (Sept. 23). MSU is back in action at home on Wednesday, Sept. 26 against Auburn at 6 p.m. on ESPNU.
