Florian Broska just knew.
Â
The Mississippi State men's tennis sophomore did not even have to take a visit to Starkville to know that it was the place for him to continue his tennis career at the collegiate level. That feeling came through his interactions with the Bulldog coaching staff, while also recognizing that college tennis also had the ability to give him an opportunity to further his education.
Â
"I didn't even come for a visit because I got to meet the coaches before and thought it was the right decision that would help me become a better tennis player," Broska said. "College tennis can give you both a college degree and a taste of professional tennis. After your career is over at the college level you can decide whether you want to go pro or get a job."
Â
The Eitelborn, Germany, native had a solid rookie campaign for the Maroon and White—earning a spot on the Southeastern Conference All-Freshman Team and being named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Southern Region Rookie of the Year.
Â
As a freshman, Broska went 20-10 in singles, including a 14-7 mark in dual matches, primarily playing the No. 5 spot for State. He also came up in the clutch a few times as well, clinching three matches for MSU, including its 4-0 SEC Quarterfinal win against Ole Miss to start State's SEC Tournament title run.
Â
This year, Broska has his sights set on being satisfied with everything he does.
Â
"I want to be happy with my tennis and school, and the success or results will come," Broska said. "When I'm satisfied with my tennis, I'm at my best level."
