Jordan Receives Freshman All-American Honors From D1Baseball.com
July 05, 2018 | Baseball
STARKVILLE, Miss. – Mississippi State baseball relied heavily on freshmen bats on its road to Omaha, and freshman outfielder Rowdey Jordan was a big reason why it worked.
On Thursday, Jordan was recognized for his outstanding first season by D1Baseball.com, who named him a Second Team Freshman All-American.
The Auburn, Ala., native is the fourth Bulldog to be named a freshman All-American in the last three seasons. Tanner Allen was named to Collegiate Baseball's Freshman All-America team in June, while Jake Mangum and RIley Self claimed the honor from multiple outlets in 2016 and 2017, respectively.
Jordan's season mirrored that of the Diamond Dawgs as a whole -- struggling early, but surging in the second half. Jordan came into April 14's contest against Auburn with a .191 batting average, but rallied over the remainder of the season to tie for the second-highest average on the team with a .321 clip.
Jordan also had the team's second-highest home run total with seven, and he collected 15 doubles and 37 RBIs.
In the NCAA Tallahassee Regional, Jordan registered multiple hits in four of MSU's five contests and picked up three doubles and five RBIs on his way to being named to the all-regional team.
