Thompson Wins Bronze for Team USA at Athletics World Cup

LONDON, U.K. – One throw was all Curtis Thompson needed to bring home Mississippi State's third international medal in the javelin this year.
The school record holder launched the implement 75.47m (247-7) on his first attempt at the Athletics World Cup in London, England. That would be his best of the day and earn him a bronze medal. He finished behind the German Julian Weber and Poland's Marcin Krukowski, who each threw over 80.00m (262-5).
Thompson scored six points for Team USA, which won the inaugural event with a final score of 219 points. The World Cup featured one male and one female athlete from eight participating nations in each event.
Events were scored in an 8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 format, rather than the more common 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 format used at the NCAA and SEC Championships, then combined between the men's and women's events to declare a single champion nation.
Former Bulldog Ffion Price was also in action over the weekend, winning the Welsh 1500m championship in 4:19.17. Price's crown gives current and former Bulldogs six national championships in 2018.
