Diamond Dawgs in Summer Ball Update - July 12
July 12, 2018 | Baseball
Hunter Vansau turned on the first pitch he saw in 2018 summer league baseball, driving it for a two-run home run for two of his three RBIs on Wednesday as he led the Victoria HarbourCats to victory.
Rowdey Jordan joined Vansau on the roster of the West Coast League team, and they're two of 14 Diamond Dawgs now playing in summer ball following a long season that saw them finish in the final four at the College World Series.
Over in the prestigious Cape Cod League, Keegan James and Riley Self are already shutting down opposing offenses for assistant coach Ron Polk and the Hyannis Harbor Hawks. In 8.2 combined innings pitched, six appearances, the duo has earned a pair of wins and not allowed a single run.
Peyton Plumlee and Zane Stephens are having similar performances on the mound for the Amsterdam Mohawks of the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League. In six starts, Plumlee has collected a 4-0 record with a 2.32 ERA while striking out 43 batters over 31.0 innings pitched. Stephens has thrown five starts out of seven total appearances on his way to a 2-0 record, a save and a 2.25 ERA.
Justin Foscue and Tanner Allen just arrived as offensive weapons for Amsterdam, and have each provided three hits in as many games. Allen also has a home run and two RBIs.
Jordan Westburg is the fifth Diamond Dawg in the PGCBL, playing for the Elmira Pioneers and is already making noise with eight hits in four games, a pair of RBIs and five runs scored.
Denver McQuary and Josh Hatcher are the furthest away from Starkville as they play out the middle of the year in the Alaska Baseball League. McQuary has already thrown in three games, one of which was a start, and has maintained a 2.45 ERA thus far.
