Unroe Selected to 2018 AVCA Thirty Under 30 Award

STARKVILLE, Miss. – With an already impressive résumé, Taylor Unroe can add another accomplishment to her list as she was named to the 2018 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Thirty Under 30 Award on Thursday.
The award was created in 2009 to honor up-and-coming coaching talent at all levels of the sport. To qualify, nominees had to be 30 or younger in 2017. There was a record-breaking 144 total nominations for this year's award.
"I am so proud of Taylor for earning this recognition. This is quite an honor in our profession, and to be chosen as one of the best and brightest under 30-years-old is really special," new coach Julie Darty said. "I am so grateful that Taylor is here at Mississippi State, working alongside me every single day. She is a tireless recruiter, a great trainer and honestly, a great friend. I enjoy working alongside her.
"Whether we are in the gym, office or out recruiting, her work ethic, determination, energy and drive do not go unnoticed. I am proud of Taylor for garnering this award."
Unroe was named to the Mississippi State volleyball coaching staff as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator in January of 2018.
Before her arrival to Starkville, she served as an assistant coach and defensive coordinator at High Point University in North Carolina.
While on staff at High Point, the team earned its first at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament for any sport in school history after going undefeated in Big South Conference play.
Prior to her stint at HPU, Unroe served as an assistant coach at George Mason University.
During her two seasons in Fairfax, Va., she served as the defensive coordinator and passing coach. Under her tutelage, the Patriots led the Atlantic-10 in digs for the first time since joining the conference. The team was also tops in blocks for the first time.
Prior to her coaching stints, Unroe was a standout at Florida, where she became the program's first SEC Libero of the Year while garnering an All-America Honorable Mention accolade in 2014. She brings a championship pedigree to the program, having led the Gators to three SEC titles and four NCAA Tournament berths.
