Anderson Peters Earns Second Weekly Honor
March 27, 2018 | Track & Field
STARKVILLE, Miss. – The National Athlete of the Week, Anderson Peters, has also earned Freshman of the Week honors from the Southeastern Conference.
Peters broke Mississippi State's freshman record in the javelin by over six meters this weekend.
"We are extremely proud of Anderson," head coach Steve Dudley said. "These are two big honors for him and our program. He had a very good weekend, but we know he's thrown farther before. There's still a lot to look forward to for him."
Peters launched the javelin 81.95m (268-10) to win the Al Schmidt Bulldog Relays. His mark leads the NCAA and ranks fourth in the world this season. It also ranks second in MSU history and is the eighth-best mark in collegiate history.
"This is a great start to my track and field career as a Bulldog," Peters said. "I'm really excited for this season, and I'm most grateful to God because he carried me through that meet without getting injured."
Peters is now the second MSU athlete to earn the conference's freshman of the week honor this year. Marco Arop was recognized in the indoor season after breaking the freshman record in the 800m.
