February 27, 2018 | Women's Basketball
STARKVILLE, Miss. – A career season on the court has earned Mississippi State senior Victoria Vivians a spot among the five finalists for the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award for the nation's top shooting guard.
The honor comes the same day she earned First Team All-SEC laurels from both league coaches and Associated Press. Vivians became just the third MSU player to garner All-SEC accolades all four years.
She was named to the Top 5 following a career-best season in which she averaged an SEC third-best 19.7 ppg. Vivians wrapped the conference slate fourth in the league averaging 19.6 ppg.
The Carthage, Miss., native rates in the Top 15 in the league in field goal percentage and the Top 10 in both 3-point and free-throw percentage.
The third player in MSU history to reach 2,000-career points, Vivians has scored double figures in 29 of State's 30 games, including 14 20-point efforts and a pair of 30-point outings. She has also excelled on the defensive end as well, pulling down a personal-best 6.0 rpg, including 6.3 rpg against SEC foes, and ranking second on the team with 1.5 spg.
Vivians led State to the program's first SEC regular-season championship with a 30-0 overall record and 16-0 SEC mark. The Bulldogs became the first SEC team to put together an undefeated regular season in 20 years.
State's 30-game win streak is the second-longest in SEC history and the longest active win streak in Division I. The 30 victories are also the most in the nation this season.
The SEC-champion Bulldogs open SEC Tournament play at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville Friday at noon CT against the winner of Thursday's game between 8-seed Alabama and 9-seed Kentucky.
A portion of the award is given based off a fan vote, and fans can vote by visiting www.hoophallawards.com. Voting begins March 2nd and runs through March 23rd.
