Stuedeman’s Squad Hosts Southeastern Louisiana in Midweek Tilt
February 19, 2018 | Softball
STARKVILLE, Miss. – Before hitting the road for the first time this season, Mississippi State softball (8-1) will close out its 10-game homestand with a midweek contest versus Southeastern Louisiana (7-1) Tuesday night at Nusz Park.
The midweek showdown from Nusz is set for a 5:30 p.m. CT first pitch. The contest will be streamed live on the SEC Network + via WatchESPN and the WatchESPN app.
Tuesday will mark the second "No One Fights Alone" midweek contest. Fans are encouraged to join the team by wearing teal in honor of freshman outfielder Alex Wilcox to bring awareness to ovarian cancer.
State is coming off a 4-1 showing last week after earning a midweek victory versus UT Martin before posting a 3-1 record over the weekend during the February Freezer tournament. The Bulldogs suffered their first loss of the season, falling to Drake, 1-0, in extra-innings.
Pitching has been a major key to MSU's early success this season. The Bulldog staff has allowed only two earned runs and currently leads the SEC with a 0.24 ERA entering Tuesday's midweek contest. Both senior right-handers Cassady Knudsen and Holly Ward have flawless 0.00 ERAs and have combined for a total of 63 strikeouts. Knudsen has struck out at least 10 batters in all three of her appearances this season.
MSU's offense has been led by the breakout play of freshman Mia Davidson, who leads the team in several offensive categories. Over State's nine games to open the season, Davidson owns a team-best .519 average, which is sixth in the SEC. She also leads the Bulldogs with a 1.000 slugging percentage, 11 runs scored, 14 hits and 8 RBIs.
