STARKVILLE – Mississippi State's soccer team has received the United Soccer Coaches' Team Academic Award for the first time since 2015.
The Bulldogs have now earned the award nine times since its inception in 1996.
"The academic culture in our soccer program is at a very high level," head coach Tom Anagnost said. "Our GPA has improved dramatically, earning the highest in the SEC and one of the very best in the nation."
State's 3.61 cumulative GPA in the 2017-18 academic year not only led the conference, it was tied for 44th across the nation and tied for 21st among NCAA Division I institutions.
While putting together their best regular season in 16 years last year, the Bulldogs also posted a program-record 3.69 GPA in the fall semester. Fourteen student-athletes earned SEC Fall Honor Roll selections, second on campus only to football.
Thirteen Bulldogs posted 4.00 GPAs in the fall, including the 2017 SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Mallory Eubanks. Eubanks was also nominated for the conference's H. Boyd McWhorter Student-Athlete Post-Graduate Scholarship.
The team saw 25 student-athletes earn a place on the Bulldog Honor Roll with a GPA of 3.00 or higher. Five freshmen earned SEC First-Year Honor Roll selections.
