Pichaikool To Play For Masters Spot In Asia-Pacific Amateur

STARKVILLE – Following a pair of top 10 finishes to tee off his junior season for Mississippi State men's golf, Peng Pichaikool has a shot to earn a Masters invitation when he begins play at the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship on Thursday in Singapore.
The four-day event will play out at the par-70 Sentosa Golf Club and will feature the top amateur golf talent throughout Asia and Australasia. The champion will punch a ticket to the Masters at Augusta National Golf Club in April and a spot at The 148th Open at Royal Portrush in Antrim, Northern Ireland, in 2019.
The runner(s)-up will receive a place in The Open Qualifying Series.
"I am excited for Peng as he begins play in this event," MSU men's golf coach Dusty Smith said. "It is a prestigious event, and we are looking forward to watching him compete this week. I know he will make all of us proud."
Golfers will play 18 holes each day beginning Thursday, and a cut will be made following Friday's second round. Play will conclude with the final two rounds between Saturday and Sunday.
Pichaikool is the 56th-ranked player on the Men's World Amateur Golf Ranking and one of six golfers from Thailand at the event.
The event will be aired live on ESPN2 through the first two days, then on the WatchESPN platform for the final two rounds. The final two rounds will be shown on tape delay via ESPN2.
Pichaikool is coming off a runner-up performance at the Louisville Cardinals Challenge in September, preceded by a seventh-place finish at the Carmel Cup on Pebble Beach Golf Links in MSU's season opener.
The junior has a 68.83 stroke average through two events and a 71.18 mark for his career at State.
