STARKVILLE – Mississippi State senior Carly Mauldin and freshman Zakirah McGillivary have received conference honors, the SEC announced on Sunday.
Mauldin earned Second Team All-SEC honors while McGillivary was selected to the All-Freshman Team.
The awards mark just the fourth season that MSU has seen multiple players receive conference honors with two of those coming under head coach Tom Anagnost (2001, 2003 and 2017).
Mauldin, a senior midfielder from Laurel, Mississippi, has started every match over the four years she has been in Starkville. She is currently fifth in Bulldog history with 6,436 career minutes and tied for eighth with 71 career starts.
"Carly is ultra-committed in her preparations and training and has really improved," Anagnost said. "Carly is the heart and soul of the team. She has a very high standard for herself teammates and is our leader on the field."
The senior is tied for third on the team with four goals this year after entering this season with just one career tally. Her nine points this season are a career best.
"Carly is extremely reliable, tough, tenacious and a fierce competitor and an excellent player," Anagnost continued. "If I could clone her, I would."
McGillivary is the fourth Bulldog to earn an All-Freshman nod and the first since Mallory Eubanks in 2014.
The Brooklyn, New York, native led the Bulldogs with 17 points, including eight goals, and tied junior MaKayla Waldner's single-season record for game-winners (5). Her goals are tied for the eighth-most in a single year in MSU history and second among freshmen. She is tied for fourth in points in the Bulldogs' freshman record books.
"Zee (McGillivary) is a talented player who is just scratching the surface of her potential," Anagnost said. "With a little more focus and commitment, she could be the most decorated player ever at Mississippi State. I'm proud of her."
McGillivary led the SEC in shots on goal percentage this season (.643) and was fifth in the league in goals. Only Vanderbilt's Haley Hopkins, who was named the SEC Freshman of the Year, scored more goals among rookies in the league.
MSU is hoping to make the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history despite missing this week's SEC Tournament. The NCAA Selection Show is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 5.
