Soccer Makes Coaches’ Poll Debut

STARKVILLE – After receiving votes in each of the past five weeks, Mississippi State has finally broken into the United Soccer Coaches' poll at No. 25 on Tuesday.

Last week, State earned the first ranking in any poll in program history, checking in at No. 19 in the TopDrawerSoccer.com poll and No. 25 in Soccer America's rankings. On Monday, the Bulldogs climbed another spot in the Top Drawer poll and sit at No. 18 this week.

MSU is one of four SEC teams to be ranked by the coaches this week and boasts the No. 8 RPI in the country.

The Maroon and White has found success this year thanks to splendid defensive efforts highlighted by seven shutouts, which is fourth in program history. Redshirt senior Rhylee DeCrane has been in net for all seven and is now tied for the individual single-season record.

State is among the top 40 in the nation in scoring offense (32nd), goals against average (32nd), shots per game (31st), winning percentage (31st) and shutout percentage (14th).

The No. 25/18 Bulldogs will face a tough road test on Thursday at No. 19/15 Vanderbilt. The Commodores are atop the SEC standings and have won 11 straight matches after dropping only their season-opener to No. 10/12 Florida State. MSU returns home to Starkville on Sunday to host Alabama at 1 p.m. CT.
